Juno
Award winner will perform at film screening
of "River of Life"
On
Nov. 18, Shari Ulrich, a Juno Award
winner and inductee to the B.C. Entertainment
Hall of Fame, will perform in conjunction
with a showing of the River of Life,
a National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
film.
The film chronicles the arduous physical
and emotional journey of one group of
racers the determined women who make
up the 2006 Paddlers Abreast team as
they compete in the Yukon River Quest.
The film was conceived and produced
by local film maker Werner Walcher and
has been on tour at several national
film festivals this summer/fall.
Ulrich, composer and performer of the
soundtrack of River of Life, will perform
for the Yukon audience prior to the
film showing.
"The
film has a great message and I'm pleased
to be asked to perform in Whitehorse,"
she said in a statement.
"I'm
also excited to finally have a chance
to meet the women in the film."
She
will be performing with her daughter,
Julia Graff.
The film was initially released at the
Yukon Arts Centre just prior to the
2007 Yukon River Quest getting underway,
and it was a full-house crowd.
"The
public has been asking for another viewing
and we know that there were people that
didn't get a chance to see it. Having
Shari
performing along with the film will
be really special," said Linda
Rapp, team captain of Paddlers Abreast.
This fundraising event will take place
at the arts centre with doors opening
at 6:30 p.m. and the show beginning
at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the
arts centre or Arts Underground.
