For Immediate Release March 30, 2009

2009 Yukon River Quest Deadline is April 15

Nearly 80 teams signed up by end of March

The 2009 Yukon River Quest had 78 teams registered as of this past weekend, and the push is on to fill all 100 available team slots before the April 15 registration deadline.

“With a little bit more than two weeks left before the closing of registrations, I would urge any teams (especially voyageur teams) to register ASAP to avoid any disappointment,” said Jean-Francois Latour, race president. “Registrations are filling in rather quickly now!”

The 30 solo slots filled last month, and the breakdown of teams as of March 28 is as follows: 4 solo canoes (C1), 26 solo kayaks (K1), 25 tandem canoes (C2), 17 tandem kayaks (K2), and 6 voyageur canoes (VC).

So far, eight countries are represented: Australia, Austria, Canada, Latvia, Great Britain, Switzerland, USA, and the United Arab Emirates.

Last year registrations filled by the deadline, and a record 89 teams started the race.
